Full - time Continuing Faculty Position, Commencing August 1, 2010
The Centre for Sport & Exercise Education at Camosun College requires a full time faculty member focusing on exercise science, physical activity and health. This position is responsible for developing and teaching curriculum aimed at the scientific aspects of exercise and the relationship(s) between physical activity, exercise and health. This will involve a combination of classroom, lab and field/practical teaching.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Implementing and teaching courses such as Chronic Disease Management, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Fitness and Health Assessment, Life Cycle Fitness, Clinical Placement Seminar and new courses such as Exercise Epidemiology, Chronic Disease Management II, Exercise and Mental Health.
- In collaboration with the Ministry of Health and BC Health Authority, work towards establishment and recognition of Exercise Therapy as a practicing profession.
- Teaching in the Life-time Fitness/Sport activity block.
- Working with the College’s Continuing Education Department, campus faculty, and others to build extension programs in the area of exercise science. Providing leadership for these programs in the areas of planning, delivery and evaluation.
- Disseminating information about exercise, health and related topics to diverse audiences including public agencies, health professionals, researchers, lay audiences and others, using a variety of teaching techniques and delivery strategies.
- Committing to apply priority scheduled development time to the development of the Centre for Sport & Exercise Education diploma and degrees and their curriculum.
- Conducting applied research and disseminating findings to both academic and practitioner audiences.
- Obtaining external funding in the form of grants and contracts to support innovation and development in the field of exercise and health.
- Working as a team member with Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence and Canadian Sport Centre Pacific personnel including scientists, administrators, coaches and instructors on relevant projects and goals.
- Providing expertise and contribution to the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence’s community programming and services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The following qualifications are required:
- Masters degree required in Kinesiology, Exercise Epidemiology, Exercise Science (or related field);
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching;
- Experience in curriculum development and delivery of three or more following courses: Fitness and Health Assessment, Chronic Disease Management, Epidemiology, Life Cycle Fitness and Lifetime Sports/Fitness activities;
- Recent clinical/practical experience in a variety of health settings;
- Ability to work as a team member to build collaborative atmosphere;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with community groups;
- Membership in the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and/or American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM);
- Certification with the CSEP Certified Exercise Physiologist certification (or willingness to obtain within the first 6 months).
In addition, the following qualifications are preferred:
- PhD in Exercise Epidemiology or related discipline;
- Ability to conduct applied research projects will be considered a definite asset;
- Experience and qualification instructing lifetime sports and fitness activities;
- Experience in setting up and managing an exercise science lab;
- Interest in Canadian Athletic Therapists Association (CATA);
- Interest in development and teaching in the areas of Sport and Fitness Leadership.
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

The BC Netball Association is looking for Physiotherapists/Athletic Therapists to help with their upcoming National Netball Championships in Burnaby. The Tournament takes place on May 22nd and 23rd and First Aid/Acute Care and Taping will be needed from 8am to 6pm on both these days. Shifts will be 4-6 hours in length.
Netball is a sport played in mostly Commonwealth countries and is played on the same size court as basketball. Similar injuries are seen to basketball (ankle, knee, shoulder and back) but the sport is quite different.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain more sport volunteer hours especially with a different sport.
You need to have First Aid or First Responder Certification and some taping experience.

Football BC is looking for a Certified Athletic Therapist to cover Team BC (U18 age group) at the 2010 Football Canada Cup to be held at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia from July 10-17, 2010. Total time commitment would be from July 6 to July 17 as there will be a 3 day prep-camp for the team at SFU from July 6-8 and they will travel to Nova Scotia on July 9 to compete in the tourney from July 10-17. Travel expenses are covered as well as an honoraium will be negotiated.

The 2010 Vancouver Sun Run will be on Sunday, May 9, 2010. SportMedBC is pleased to announce that we will be providing medical coverage for this event for the 26th straight year. We are looking for medical team volunteers for coverage between 0700-1300. All interested individuals should have a valid CPR and First-Aid certificate. We require all types of medical volunteers from physicians and nurses to physio's athletic therapists, massage therapists, chiropractors and SportsAiders. With the Sun Run's ever increasing run/walk participants we are always looking for assistance. If you have friends, family or colleagues that would be interested in helping with the medical coverage, please forward this message on to them.

BC Summer Games
2010 BC Summer Games
Date: July 22-25
Location: Langley, BC
This event is a very large one being hosted this year by the township of Langley. Athletes will be competing in one or more of 23 different sports being held at 35 venues around Langley, Aldergrove and Abbotsford. All types of medical volunteers are needed for the games from physicians and nurses to physiotherapists, athletic therapists, massage therapists, chiropractors and SportsAiders. All interested individuals should have a valid CPR and First-Aid certificate.
This letter is being sent out to recruit athletic therapist volunteers to work at the games. There will be 4 on site venues as well as a polyclinic that will be staffed with athletic therapists as well as other medical personnel. On site venues as well as the clinic will be open from the morning of Thursday, July 22 to the evening of Sunday, July 25. Operation hours on site will be determined based on scheduled event times and the clinic will have set hours of 10am to 12pm on Thursday and 7am to 11pm Friday through Sunday.
If you are able to volunteer for any amount of time during the games please register on the website at https://www.bcgames.net/tl2010s/VolunteerModule/register.aspx as a medical service/ first aid volunteer. From this point you will be contacted in order to determine availability, specialty and sport preference. As a part of the medical team, you will receive a medical shirt and meal(s).
